NGINA Banner

Last week I presented at the Associations Forum Annual Conference at the National Convention Centre in Canberra. Associations Forum is Australia’s premier network of associations and by being a member, NGINA benefits from advice, knowledge, and networking. Just as NGINA strengthens its members and community, the Associations Forum provides NGINA with the essential tools, resources and solutions to enhance our work for the nursery and garden industry. The session focused on how effective campaigns can address critical challenges like our successful campaign on "A Career in Horticulture". Facing the looming threat of closure due to low enrolments NGINA embarked on a strategic approach to save the CIII Nursery Operations course from discontinuation.

Utilising various channels, we achieved a remarkable 1175% increase in student enrollment, surpassing TAFE NSW requirements. This achievement secures a promising future for the program and showcases our commitment to industry growth through innovative initiatives and effective communication strategies. Thank you again to Leisha Jordan, our Marketing and Comms Manager for her invaluable contributions to the success of this campaign.

Whilst at the conference, I took the opportunity to participate in the other informative sessions on member engagement and our value proposition, making associations profitable, events, trending legal and governance issues for associations, the skills crisis and technology.

Sydney Trade Day

Upon my return to Sydney, I had the pleasure of hosting the Pioneers Luncheon at Galston Club on Thursday. The Pioneers Luncheon is always more than just a gathering—it's a heartwarming reunion, connecting generations in the Nursery and Garden Industry.

This year, 55 attendees joined for reflection, camaraderie, and recognition of industry founders.

Stories of joy and laughter filled the day, from Judy Horton's charming tales to Mark Engall's generational legacy. Neil Bowers, at 95, and Stan Bibby, at 94.5, were highlights, showcasing age as no barrier to enthusiasm. CEO Anita Campbell and VP Andy Cameron emphasised innovation and adaptability, honoring the past while looking forward. As we move ahead, we're grateful for our pioneers' legacy and excited for the future of our industry. A huge thank you to Melissa Meadows, our Events Coordinator for such a wonderful event.
