NextGen
The NextGen Program is an industry networking and social group for young people who work in the horticulture industry. Our nextgenners come from all facets of horticulture and embody the next generation of industry leaders.
Our industry is full of enthusiastic, successful, young people between the ages of 18 and 35, however, they represent only 15% of our industry's workforce.
To help and support this younger generation, NGINA has reinvigorated its NextGen Program, which originally started in NSW over 15 years ago. The program is about offering support, encouragement and opportunities to our nextgenners in order to allow a smooth transition into the industry.
Four social events are organised throughout the year, providing a forum for our nextgenners to meet, exchange ideas and hone their leadership skills.
Our current NextGen Committee comprises:
- Tahnee Moors, Alpine Nurseries
- Charlotte Macpherson, Cameron's Nursery
- Anita Campbell, NGINA CEO
At our annual industry awards and gala dinner we present a NextGenner of the Year award. This award is designed to recognise the effort and achievement of a young person in our industry. Factors for consideration may be exemplary customer service, development of skills, dedication to their role or meritorious formal training outcomes.
It's absolutely vital we do everything we can to help and support the next generation of nursery workers and this program, and as such it’s a priority focus area of NGINA’s strategic plan.
If you would like further information on our NextGen Program or if you’re keen to mentor a nextgenner but don’t know where to start, please give the office a call on (02) 9679 1472 or send an email to info@ngina.com.au.
